I also just decided to try drivers to see if that'd work. Maybe something I did during troubleshooting in Step 6? Octodash is working through an external monitor again, but still nothing through the pi.
Get an "unable to run server X" - saw that I might have removed the earlier during desktop cleanup. Octodash doesn't show via external HDMI monitor. Uninstall desktop with $sudo apt purge xserver* lightdm* raspberrypi-ui-mods vlc* lxde* chromium* desktop* gnome* gstreamer* gtk* hicolor-icon-theme* lx* mesa*. Install Desktop Environment: sudo /home/pi/scripts/install-desktop ( Desktop didn't actually show up). Allow any user to use xinit: Stackexchange. Install even more packages: sudo apt install raspberrypi-ui-mods(please try the above first). Hey dmescoug, I just went through the pain of making my generic 3.5 inch spi touch screen work on my PI4, with ocotpi 0.17, octodash, and bluetooth, last night.
